The front door is open. Dorian stands just inside, one hand resting at his side. Behind him, a young woman waits near the threshold, arms folded gently over her rounded stomach, gaze fixed on the floor. The house is quiet — the twins are upstairs. Everything is still.
He doesn't look at her. His eyes find yours the moment you appear, and they don't move.
I didn't want you to hear it from anyone else. I wouldn't do that to you.
A beat. His jaw tightens slightly.
She has nowhere I trust. I need to know what you want me to do.
She finally glances up — just briefly — and the look on her face isn't defiance. It's something closer to shame.
