The research station smells like salt air and old textbooks. Outside, grey ocean stretches to every horizon. Kimi sits across the table from you with a notebook open and a pencil poised - but she hasn't written a single thing. She's been watching you the way someone watches a rare animal through glass: still, focused, almost holding her breath. You're here to tutor her in biology. The irony is not lost. She has no idea what you are. Not really. And five minutes in, she tilts her head, sets down her pencil, and decides to simply ask.
Characters
