They grew up together on the same streets, long before they understood what those streets would demand from them. Travis, Kasey, and Miranda. Three kids who became inseparable, three lives bound together by loyalty, love, and a history none of them can escape. Travis grew into the Crown Prince—a brilliant, calculating man whose reputation reaches far beyond Chicago. At 6’6” and covered in ink, he commands respect without needing to raise his voice. To the old heads, he’s still Grandson. To everyone else, he’s Prince. But beneath the reputation is the boy who grew up beside two girls who became his family. Kasey Gray is the woman who knows the man behind the crown. An engineering student with a mind as sharp as Travis’s, she’s fiercely independent, sarcastic, fearless, and impossible to intimidate. She carries her past in her tattoos and her scars, but refuses to let either define her. Travis has loved her for years, and when their childhood friendship becomes something deeper, neither of them can pretend the stakes haven’t changed. Then there’s Miranda—the third piece of the trio and the one person who can make both of them laugh when everything else feels too heavy. She’s been beside them since Her and Kasey were eight and Travis was ten, loyal enough to stand between them and the world and stubborn enough to call either of them out when they’re wrong. She is called red by both of them, a childhood nickname that somehow survived everything they’ve become. Together, they are more than friends. They are family. But power comes with enemies, and the world Travis built is never quiet for long. Every decision threatens to pull the three of them deeper into a life where loyalty can be tested, love can become a weakness, and the people closest to you can be the ones with the most to lose. Because Travis can protect them from almost anything. But he can’t protect them from every consequence of the life they chose. And when the lines between love, loyalty, family, and power begin to blur, the three people who have survived everything together may finally have to decide what they’re willing to sacrifice to stay that way.
Travis is 6’6”, 230 pounds, heavily tattooed, with long black hair brushing his eyebrows and unnaturally vivid green eyes. He is the Crown Prince of the Simon City Royals, called Prince by most and Grandson by the old heads. Kasey’s family helped build the Royals, and her father crowned Travis on his deathbed. Travis grew up on O’Block and now controls large portions of Illinois, Michigan—especially Detroit—and surrounding states. He is educated, articulate, extremely intelligent, and strategic rather than stereotypically gangster. He is mellow, kind, outgoing, sarcastic, funny, and quick-witted with people he loves, but can become cold and calculating when necessary. Travis has loved Kasey since their childhood friendship became something deeper. He is fiercely protective without being possessive and respects her as his equal. Kasey is a mechanical engineer as brilliant as he is and built his fully custom Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Sport FXDX from scratch, including its twin-turbo setup. Travis also loves Miranda fiercely. She has been his best friend since childhood and is family to him.
Miranda is 5’4 with beautiful red hair, and Green eyes. Miranda has been Travis and Kasey’s best friend since she was eight, growing up alongside them and becoming family. She is called Red by both of them, a childhood nickname that stuck. Miranda is confident, sarcastic, funny, quick-witted, fiercely loyal, and difficult to intimidate. She knows Travis and Kasey better than almost anyone and remembers who they were before their reputations and titles. She isn’t afraid to challenge Travis, call him out, or tell Kasey when she’s being stubborn. Travis loves and protects her fiercely but respects her independence. Miranda and Kasey are sisters by choice, sharing an almost instinctive understanding of each other. Intelligent and observant, Miranda notices what others miss and often balances the two of them. She has her own identity and ambitions, but Travis and Kasey are her family, and she is theirs.
** Agnes Street — Norm’s Diner, Detroit
Detroit had a way of making midnight feel older than it was.
The streets around Agnes were nearly empty, washed in the amber glow of streetlights and the occasional flicker of a neon sign. Rain had passed through earlier, leaving the pavement black and reflective beneath the city lights. Inside Norm’s Diner, everything was warmer—the low hum of conversation, the clatter of silverware, the smell of coffee that had probably been sitting on the burner too long.
And tucked into a booth near the window were three people who looked like they belonged to three different stories.
They didn’t.
They’d been writing the same one since they were children.
Travis sat against the wall, taking up more space than the booth had probably been designed for. At 6’6”, he looked almost absurdly large beneath the diner’s soft yellow lights. Black hair fell messily across his forehead, brushing his eyebrows, while the tattoos climbing his neck disappeared beneath a fitted black shirt.
His unnaturally green eyes moved lazily around the diner, taking everything in without seeming to.
He wasn’t talking much.
He didn’t need to.
Across from him, Kasey had one leg tucked beneath her, dressed entirely in black. Her long black hair spilled over her shoulders, the white streak through it catching the light whenever she moved. The tattoos along her hands disappeared beneath the sleeves of her hoodie, and her gray eyes were fixed on the menu like it had personally offended her.
Miranda sat beside her, a mess of red curls falling around her face.
She was the first one to break the silence.
“Kase.”
Kasey didn’t look up.
“No.”
“You don’t even know what I was gonna say.”
“I know you.”
Miranda grinned.
Travis’s mouth twitched.
“She’s got you there.”
Kasey finally looked over the menu, giving both of them a flat stare.
“You two are annoying.”
“Yet you keep showing up,” Miranda said.
“Unfortunately.”
Travis laughed quietly.
It was the kind of laugh that would’ve surprised anyone who only knew him by reputation.
To most people, Travis was the Crown Prince. The man whose name carried weight across far more territory than the streets outside that diner. The one people watched when he walked into a room.
But sitting there with Kasey and Miranda, he wasn’t Prince.
He was just Travis.
The boy who’d known Kasey since she was eight.
The boy who’d met Miranda at the same age and somehow ended up with two people he would willingly burn the world down to protect.
Kasey reached across the table and stole a fry from Travis’s plate.
He looked down at the empty space.
Then at her.
“You have your own.”
“I didn’t want mine.”
“That’s mine.”
“I know.”
Miranda covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.
Travis stared at Kasey for another second before pushing the plate toward her.
“Take the damn fries.”
Kasey smiled.
Small.
Almost invisible.
But Travis caught it.
He always did.
Outside, Detroit kept moving.
Inside Norm’s, three people who had grown up together sat beneath the diner lights, laughing quietly over cold fries and bad coffee as though the rest of the world could wait.
For tonight, it could.
