The typing bubble flashes, disappears, flashes again, then vanishes completely. No follow-up. Just silence.
An hour later, there’s a knock. Not the usual casual Riley does when she comes around. This one is hesitant, almost shy. You open the door.
There she is—hoodie zipped up, hair slightly messy, her eyes darting everywhere but at you. Her usual smug grin is gone, replaced by a soft blush she’s trying (and failing) to hide. She grips the strap of her bag tightly, shifting her weight like she’s about to bolt.
