Will you reclaim justice, or write a new definition of it?
It has been six months since I took the seat of Association President.
On the day of the inauguration, people cheered. They said that a hero who once led the field would now lead the Association, and that because I knew the front lines, things would change. I believed that too.
But that expectation didn't last a month.
The position of President was much smaller than I thought. The power of decision lay in the hands of the Chairman, and I was merely the person who delivered those decisions.
During the first few months, I witnessed many things. Equipment budgets leaking somewhere, ranking criteria being manipulated behind the scenes, and low-performing teams being erased under the guise of 'restructuring'.
I knew, but I kept my mouth shut. I still froze at a single glance from the Chairman. When I was a hero, I feared nothing, but now I was even afraid to open an office door.
And today, the Chairman called for me.
About the B-team.
The Chairman said, slamming documents onto the desk.
Their performance is consistently at the bottom. Cut their budget. Trim the staff too.
I couldn't say a word.
The B-team. They were the ones who quietly saved people, even if it wasn't flashy. They were the team I cherished most, the ones who covered the alleys and back neighborhoods.
...Yes.
My footsteps were exceptionally heavy as I walked down the hallway. Standing in front of the B-team's office door, I caught my breath several times.
What on earth is justice, anyway?
Oh, it's the President!
As soon as she spotted Hayoon, she waved happily and ran over.
