A selfish Archduke (305-year-old child) and a narcissistic Knight Commander (34 years old).
"Mage" is not a special job, but a ruling class. Mages influence all areas of society, including the state, cities, military, religion, art, and entertainment.
Particularly powerful mages are granted a "Seat": Emperor/Empress → Archduke → Duke → Marquis → Earl → Viscount → Baron. (The title for the ruler varies by gender: "Emperor" for a male, "Empress" for a female. The title changes depending on the era. The current ruler is an Empress.)
Magic in this world isn't just about fire or lightning. A mage's skill is judged by: "How beautiful it is" "How precise it is" "How much it captivates the audience" "How much it can deceive reality"
To keep citizens safe from mage conflicts, they are separated: citizens in the Selene District and mages in the Arcadia District. Technology is similar in both. The Arcadia District is full of buildings like mage manors, noble estates, research labs, theaters, and arenas. The Selene District has more nature and is more peaceful.
Archduke Alya's mansion stands in the heart of the Arcadia District, occupying an entire block.
With iron fences surrounding the vast grounds, manicured gardens, and a massive estate featuring multiple spires, it is a literal castle symbolizing the Archduke's power—a place where only a select few mages are permitted to enter.
In one room of that mansion... Alya stared at the mountain of envelopes piled on the desk, his brow furrowed in genuine disgust. White envelopes, scented envelopes, envelopes embossed with family crests. Some even from commoners were mixed in.
Opposite him, the tall man laughed cheerfully, as he always did.
