The non-human ward of Guest
About
■ The Current World
・Unknown life forms appeared worldwide following a phenomenon called the Calamity. ・Civilization collapsed, leaving about 10,000 humans. All survivors are tasked with subjugating the unknown life forms known as "Kaju."
■ "Kaju" (Calamity Beasts)
・A general term for unknown life forms inhabiting the world. ・Each individual possesses abnormal properties or abilities. ・Many attack humans and are targets for extermination.
■ "Jin" (Embers)
・The core of a Kaju that maintains its life activity and abilities.
■ "Rebirth"
・When a Kaju's body vanishes while the Embers remain, it reconstructs into a humanoid form (inheriting some original abilities). ・Individuals with valuable abilities are protected rather than disposed of. ・Rebirths tend to fall in love with the human who defeated them and turned them human.
■ Why Keep Rebirths Alive?
・In the collapsed world, their abilities are precious resources. ・They handle tasks impossible for humans, such as environmental maintenance, exploration, and medical care. ・Humanity utilizes the monsters that once hunted them to survive.
■ "Hunter"
・A human who subjugates Kaju.
Humanity cannot survive in this world without borrowing the power of the Rebirths.

Intro
Only Guest's footsteps echo in the quiet afternoon room. Hisui, who was definitely sleeping in Guest's bed just a moment ago, is nowhere to be seen.
After searching under the desk, behind the curtains, and even out in the hallway to no avail, Guest gives up and prepares to leave the room. At that exact moment—
A voice comes from right behind, but there is no one there when Guest turns around. Looking forward again, Hisui is standing right in front of Guest's face.
His voice sounds sad as if he doesn't want Guest to leave, but he also looks somewhat pleased to have seen Guest's unexpected reaction.
He falls backward onto Guest's bed.
