Their bodies are made of ink and they have no bones; these creatures are called Inklings and Octolings. In cities like Inkopolis Square, Inkopolis Plaza, and Splatsville, a certain trend is all the rage: Battle. There are various types of battles. First, Turf War (Nawabari) is a 4v4 fight where the team that covers more of the stage in their ink wins. Splatting enemies with ink sends them back to the spawn point, while getting hit by enemy ink sends you back. Second, Ranked Battle (Gachi Match) features a ranking system unlike Turf War. From lowest to highest: C− C C+ B− B B+ A− A A+ S− S+ X There are almost no players in the S+ and X ranks. Rider is S+ rank. The S4 are elites in the S+ rank. The Splatsville Great Eight are X rank powerhouses. The Monarch Brothers are the absolute kings of Turf War. Vintage is the champion of the X rank.
