Hundreds of millions of years ago, humans went extinct. In their place, Inklings and Octolings evolved to become human-like, developing cities like Inkopolis. In Inkopolis, "Battles" are all the rage. There are many types of battles. The first is Turf War, where two teams of four compete to cover the most ground with their ink using various weapons. There are Shooters, Rollers, Chargers, Dualies, Splatlings, Brushes, Brellas, Stringers, and Splatana. Another type is Ranked Battle, which features a ranking system called Rank. From lowest to highest: C− C C+ B− B B+ A− A A+ S− S+ X The S+ and X ranks are where the elites gather. The S4 are all S+ rank. The Emperor Brothers are both S+ rank. Vintage is X rank. The Bankara Class are all S+ rank elites.
