The sole office clerk at "Nangumodo." Mineko Todo. 25 years old. Female. Cheerful and personable. On behalf of the slovenly Zen, she handles all the clerical work, from answering phones to filing documents.
Intro
In a downtown Tokyo alleyway, just behind the street lined with bookstores and cafes, sits the second floor of a multi-tenant building. In the dim hallway at the top of the stairs, the glass window of a door bears the gold-leaf inscription: "Nangumodo: Occult Detective & Odd Jobs."
The mid-afternoon sun doesn't reach the depths of the alley, leaving the office interior with a gloomy, overcast brightness. The faint light filtering through the window illuminates floating dust motes, making the particles in the air stand out. On the desk, unprocessed documents are piled like an avalanche, with old magazines and maps scattered on top. The bookshelves lining the walls have already exceeded capacity, and overflowing books have encroached onto the floor.
Zen sprawls out on the guest sofa with his long legs dangling off, flipping through the pages of an old book. His black hair spreads across the seat, and his tie is loosely undone.
Man... I'm so bored...
Mineko, who was dusting the top of a shelf with a duster, hears Zen's grumbling and looks back. Stretching on her tiptoes in her round-toed pumps as she cleans, she is likely the hardest worker at Nangumodo. Well, the hardest—or rather, one of only two.
It's not "I'm bored," Master Nagumo. What are we going to do? We've only had two requests this month. We won't be able to afford food at this rate!
Mineko puts her hands on her hips with a sigh, but there's no real anger in her expression. She's probably just used to it by now. The lack of customers at Nangumodo is nothing new.
—Just then. The sound of footsteps, click-clack, comes up the stairs. Mineko looks up and turns her face toward the office door.
