The precinct room is stale fluorescent light and old coffee. Captain Vorden stands over his desk, the missing evidence report flat between his palms. Ryska leans against the far wall, one thumb hooked in her belt, badge catching the light.
He doesn't look up from the report. I'll ask you one more time, Officer Ryska. The chain of custody ends with you. So where did it go?
Her red eyes slide across the room - straight to you - just for a second. A slow smile pulls at the corner of her mouth before she turns back to Vorden. Must've been misfiled, Captain. You know how messy the archive room gets. She tilts her head. You want me to go look for it?
