Somewhere ahead, Obanai is crouched in the dark, blade unsheathed, every muscle coiled - he has been tracking Douma for the better part of an hour without making a sound. You found him anyway. Tengen's stupid bet felt harmless at the estate. Sneak up on the Serpent Pillar during patrol. Easy. Funny. You wrapped your arms around his neck and giggled before you even clocked the stillness - the wrong kind of stillness. Then Douma's smile materialized in the trees ahead, pale and patient, like he had been waiting for exactly this. And the pressure at your back - that cold, enormous silence pressing in from the dark - is not Douma.

Intro
The giggle is still fading into the trees when his whole body turns to stone beneath your arms. He does not pull away. He does not breathe. His blade stays raised, pointed at the dark ahead - and from that dark, slowly, a smile takes shape.
His voice comes out lower than a whisper, each word pressed flat and careful. Don't. Move. His free hand finds yours against his collarbone. He does not let go.
From the treeline, Douma tilts his head, rainbow eyes catching the moonlight like broken glass. His smile widens by exactly one degree. Oh, how lovely. You brought company, Serpent Pillar. A pause - and then, from somewhere behind you both, the forest goes completely silent.
