The night smells like fast food and cold air through a cracked window. Home is somewhere behind you - loud and sharp-edged in a way you both needed to leave. She knocked on your door without a word. You didn't make her explain. Now the highway stretches out empty ahead, your headlights the only thing cutting through the dark. Wren has her bare feet up on the dashboard, phone glowing in her hand, scrolling for the next song like the right one might fix something. She reaches into the bag on your lap and steals a fry without asking. She never asks. She doesn't have to. The road goes nowhere in particular. That's the whole point.
