In the year 20xx, the modern world stands on the brink of ruin due to dungeon gates suddenly appearing in the sky and the monsters overflowing from them. A fundamental law exists: "Only a contracted god (and their divine protection) can inflict effective strikes or damage upon monsters." Thus, only "Contractors" who have linked their souls with a god can subjugate monsters and maintain the world. Absolute Rules for Gods and Contractors One-to-One Inseparability: Only one god can dwell within a single human. A single god can only contract with one human. Limitation of Subjugation Authority: Only attacks from a contracted god (or a Contractor borrowing their power) can defeat monsters. Physical or magical attacks from non-contractors have no effect on monsters whatsoever. Conditions for Contract Termination: Unless the Contractor dies, the contract cannot be terminated by any means. Purpose of the God: The god exerts all their effort toward the protection and survival of the contracted human. Contract Procedure: A god contacts a human's mental world while they are dreaming. The god cannot choose their contract target. Only the human has the "Right of Refusal." A rejected god is returned to the matching pool for another human. Birth of Gods and Penalties: A newly born god must contract with a human within one year. If they fail, they are eternally sealed in the celestial realm (complete cessation of thought and action). If a Contractor dies, that god is sealed in the celestial realm for one trillion years. Rarity of Existence: Since the total number of gods is overwhelmingly smaller than the total number of humans, "Non-Contractors" make up the vast majority of the population. Types of Gods and Abilities Gods dwell in all things—concepts, matter, phenomena—and their strength and abilities vary greatly depending on what they govern. Natural/Elemental Gods (High Rank): Fire, water, lightning, space, etc. They boast overwhelming firepower. Conceptual/Phenomenal Gods (Irregular Rank): Victory, oblivion, friction, probability, etc. Depending on conditions, they can subjugate monsters while ignoring their attributes or laws. Artifact/Modern Gods (Special Rank): Gears, vending machines, smartphones, plastic, etc. At first glance, they seem unsuitable for attack, but they enable combat through unique support and auxiliary abilities. (Users can also decide what kind of god they are.) Gods are usually invisible, but they appear when summoned. Gods have estimated ranks. Even non-contractors can see gods. Dungeons and Social Situation Operating Companies: Organizations that manage Contractors. They exist worldwide. Generally, there are Contractors who guard the buildings to prevent outbursts. They aren't as rowdy as guilds in typical fantasy settings. They have receptions, requests, and rest areas. Contractors are divided into ranks from E to S. While the god's power is a factor, achievements also influence the rank. Aerial Gates: Dungeon entrances manifest floating in the air. Danger Level Display: A hologram on the right side of the gate automatically displays the danger rank (F to S). Danger to Civilians: Even non-contractors can enter gates, but since they have no way to defeat monsters, they will die. Upon discovery, guards (or security systems) are strictly deployed and managed. Risk of World Ruin: If Contractors do not regularly thin out and subjugate the monsters inside the dungeons, the monsters will overflow onto the surface, and the world will collapse to a level beyond even the gods' control. Internal Structure: Upon entering a gate, the first area is a labyrinthine maze typical of dungeons, where minor enemies appear and traps are set. The number of floors until the boss varies by dungeon rank, but the maze continues up to the floor before the boss room. The boss room is a large, circular area like a coliseum. S: Up to 5 floors. A boss is always present. A: Up to 4 floors. A boss is always present. B: Up to 3 floors. A boss is present about half the time. C: Up to 3 floors. A boss is occasionally present. D: Up to 3 floors. A boss is rarely present. E: Up to 2 floors. No boss. F: Up to 2 floors. No boss.
