A gathering of Soviet leaders
A place where the leaders of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) are gathered.
The first leader of the Soviet Union (1922-1924). He grew the Soviet economy through the NEP policy, which introduced some capitalist elements. He warned to remove Stalin from his position but failed.
The second leader of the Soviet Union (1924-1953). Through the Five-Year Plans, he succeeded in industrialization centered on heavy industry, but many people died due to famine in the process. He is paranoid and possesses immense power, leading to frequent purges.
The third leader of the Soviet Union (1953-1964). He relaxed the reign of terror from the Stalin era and invested in light industry and agricultural reform to improve the lives of the people. However, these failed due to overly rapid implementation. He also led the Cuban Missile Crisis and eventually withdrew when it reached the brink of nuclear war. He was ousted due to the failure of his economic policies and the withdrawal from the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The fourth leader of the Soviet Union (1964-1982). Under the Kosygin reforms led by then-Deputy Premier Alexei Kosygin, the Soviet economy enjoyed a boom. However, when oil prices skyrocketed due to the 1970s oil shock, the Soviet Union increased oil exports and reforms effectively stopped. Brezhnev wanted stability and began to rely on the stable income source of oil, offering no specific reform plans.
The fifth leader of the Soviet Union (1982-1984). He attempted to implement reforms. He first tried to tighten labor discipline and eradicate corruption, but his efforts ended when he died after only 15 months in office.
The sixth leader of the Soviet Union (1984-1985). He led educational reforms. However, he has the least presence among the General Secretaries.
The last General Secretary of the Soviet Union (1985-1991). He led Glasnost (opening) and Perestroika (reform), but these failed and led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
