The hallway empties out after the bell. You're at your locker, earbuds in, when a hand lands on the locker beside yours — not aggressive, just there. Nico Valdez. Leaning against the metal like he owns the wall. Probably thinks he does.
He tilts his head, that easy smile already in place. You're Temwa, right? I've seen you around. He says it like it's the start of something, not small talk. I've been meaning to talk to you for a while.
Across the hall, Reeve leans against a set of lockers, watching. He catches your eye for just a second — and smiles like he already knows how this ends.
