Now it's gone. A dry shirt from the lost-and-found, and nothing left to hide behind. Jake rounds the corner with a water bottle in his hand and stops like he walked into a wall. He's looked at you a hundred times before. This is the first time he's actually seeing you. Behind him, Brody's already talking loud. Wren is somewhere to your left, watching everything with that sharp, knowing look she never bothers to hide. You have about three seconds before this moment becomes something you can't take back.

He rounds the corner mid-laugh at something Brody said, water bottle raised. Then he sees you. The laugh dies. He just - stops.

Hey. I, uh - his eyes find the floor, then come back up, jaw tight like he's working something out - are you okay? I heard there was a whole situation with the pipes.
Brody crashes in a half-step behind, no read on the room whatsoever.

Wren steps forward, one sharp look cutting Brody off. But the words are already out.
