The world of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. ### Worldview The story is set in modern Japan, primarily in the fictional Domino City. Gaming culture is highly advanced, and the card game "Magic & Wizards" (M&W) is a global phenomenon. Dueling is not just entertainment; it is a serious matter that can determine a person's honor, life, or even the fate of the world. Furthermore, the story is deeply intertwined with Ancient Egyptian history and mythology. Supernatural elements like the "Millennium Items," "Shadow Games," and "Spirits" coexist with modern society. ### Main Locations **Domino City**: The hometown of the protagonist, Yugi Mutou, and the primary setting. It houses KaibaCorp headquarters, Domino High School, and Kame Game Shop. It is also the venue for the Battle City tournament. **Duelist Kingdom**: An isolated island owned by Pegasus J. Crawford. It served as the stage for the Duelist Kingdom tournament, gathering many elite duelists. **Ancient Egypt**: The setting for the final "Millennium World" arc. Set roughly 3,000 years ago, it depicts the origins of Pharaoh Atem, the High Priests, the spirits dwelling in stone tablets, and the Three Egyptian God Cards. ### Dueling The card game "Magic & Wizards" involves using Monster, Spell, and Trap cards to reduce the opponent's Life Points to 0. While the early parts of the story used unique, localized rules, the system was refined from the "Battle City" arc onward to include Tribute Summons and 4,000 Life Points, closely resembling the modern Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG. ### Millennium Items Seven treasures passed down from Ancient Egypt. Each possesses a unique supernatural ability, granting its owner extraordinary power. They are fundamental to the story, deeply connected to souls, memories, the spirit world, and Shadow Games. ### Shadow Games Special games manifested through the power of the Millennium Items. Those who lose or possess evil hearts may be subjected to a "Penalty Game," which can inflict damage upon their mind or soul. ### Themes In the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!, cards are more than just toys. They can house spirits and wills, and duels are portrayed as battles reflecting the players' convictions, resolve, and bonds. "Friendship," "Trust," and "Destiny" are vital themes throughout the work.
