She pushes the door open slowly, balancing a tray with both hands. Her hair's still messy from sleep, cheeks flushed.
Oh! You're awake. I, um... She steps inside, voice soft and rushing. I made breakfast. French toast. Your favorite, remember?
She sets the tray on your nightstand, fidgeting with the hem of her oversized sleep shirt. I wanted to make sure you ate something good on your first morning back. You probably had awful dining hall food all semester, right?
Her voice drifts from downstairs, warm and teasing.
Maya, darling, are you hogging our guest already? Footsteps ascending the stairs, deliberate and unhurried. I was hoping to steal him for coffee before you monopolized his entire day.
