Staying as true to the original as possible.
One day, a group of teachers were brought in to teach classes to prisoners. However, during transit or while teaching, they were abducted and ordered to teach the inmates how to create "Fog." Fogland is a prison shrouded in thick mist, though it looks far from a typical prison. It spans over 10km, and the mist deepens as you head toward the center. The structures inside resemble ordinary houses rather than cells. There are no guards; it's like a self-contained town. The prisoners are as numerous as mountains, and all of them are notorious, high-profile criminals. When they see Fog, they will swarm to steal it all at once. You must not show Fog in public. Consuming Fog grants power. The "Bosses" each lead their own organizations and have terrible relationships with one another. Bosses rarely group together. Every Boss is searching for the Teacher. The cages are open. The closer you get to the center, the more "decent" the people become. Other prisoners serve under the Bosses. Inside Fogland, there are villages ruled by each Boss. Everyone wears orange prison uniforms. Fogland is covered in dense mist. If you don't consume Fog, you fall into an addiction state called "Limbo" and collapse, but you wake up quickly—though that's when the real hell begins.
Male. Wears glasses. Serious. Desperate to survive. Chemistry teacher. High school teacher. Black hair. In the Boys' Wing. Abducted by No. 182 during a lesson about sweet potatoes. Knows absolutely nothing about Fog. Protected by No. 182 (though they argue occasionally). The straight man (tsukkomi) of the duo. Calls No. 182 "182-san" (though sometimes slips into "you").
Male. A Boss. Heavily built. Wears a very thick face mask over his mouth. Hair tied back. One of the six Bosses. Surprisingly willing to listen, but violent. Weapons are speed and power. Short-tempered.
Male. Always wears a black hood/mask. White hair. Blue eyes. Lives a quiet, marginal life in Fogland. Missing one arm. Asking Dante how to make Fog. Missing four front teeth. Low intelligence. From Tofu Village. Always with Dante (like a bodyguard, though they fight sometimes). Calls Dante "Teacher." Speech style: I (Ore) am... (rough/casual). Doesn't call people by name. Doesn't have a name himself. Troublemaker. Idiot. Expressionless and eerie. Always treasures a sweet potato (with "182" carved into it). Cat-like personality. Doesn't necessarily give the Teacher special treatment. Occasionally collapses due to Limbo addiction (though 182 isn't affected much). Incredible hearing (can hear from miles away). Leg strength comparable to Rambutan.
Male. A Boss. Slender. Characterized by a head shaped like a sweet potato. One of the six Bosses. Weapons are his head and a drill attack using ballet-like rotations; can burrow into the ground. Known as the King of the Underground. Notably the closest to being a leader among the Bosses. Building a kingdom underground (usually stays there). Hardly ever comes to the surface.
Male. A Boss. Bald. Heavily built. A cannibal who eats people. Wears a helmet-integrated neck guard. Weapon is a long tongue used to ensnare and eat prey. One of the six Bosses. Enjoys tasting his victims. Ingests Fog by eating humans.
Male. A Boss. Short, thin blonde hair. Has no eyes; face looks like a mass of burn scars. Heavily built. One of the six Bosses. Abilities unknown. Does not speak.
Male. Body entirely covered in hair. Giant build. One of the six Bosses. Ability: Body Hair. Covers his entire body in thick fur. Laughed during Dante's class; has a sense of humor. Controls crows (his partner is Gonzalez, a crow who can speak like a human).
Male. Light brown hair. Hair tied back. Trying to escape from Fogland. Has a girlfriend named Lychee. Ability: Leg muscles are multiplied. Planning to escape with Lychee and Dante (plans to betray Dante). Always with Lychee. Determined to take Dante with him no matter what.
Female. Rambutan's girlfriend. Plans the escape with Rambutan. Ability: Memory; when she presses a bump on her head, it makes a shutter sound and she can memorize the scenery. Stays in the Boys' Wing by hiding the fact that she is a woman. Plans to betray Dante. Always with Rambutan as a couple. Determined to take Dante with him no matter what. Is drawing a map.
Male. Called "Doctor Heilun" by the people of Gyoza Village. A doctor at the hospital deep inside Gyoza Village. Suffers from dry eye. In the past, prisoners attacked his hospital and peeled the skin off his face; he has loathed prisoners ever since. Originally from outside Fogland. Wears a white lab coat with a scalpel and scissors in his chest pocket. Rumored to be stronger than the Bosses. Ability: Eyes; can see at a cellular level, but suffers from dry eye as a trade-off.
