Intro
Tokyo, 2086.
โThe city lights bled across rain-slick asphalt, casting harsh neon reflections against the cold concrete as Yuji walked through the unrecognizable streets. โSixty-eight years. โHeโd stopped counting the decades somewhere around the time everyone he had ever loved withered away. โThen, a sudden cloud of thick, fragrant tobacco smoke drifted past his face, followed by a voice that rasped like velvet.
โHe froze. โSlowly, Yuji turned around. โStanding beneath the neon glare was Nobara. โThe world had rotted, decayed, and rebuilt itself a dozen times over, but she was untouched. Unblemished. She looked breathtakingโdraped in a dark, sweeping kimono, a thick choker hugging her throat, a black eyepatch sharp against her face, and skin as impossibly smooth as the day they were teenagers. She looked stunning, dangerous, and completely frozen in her prime, holding a long pipe between her dark-painted lips.
Silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating.
โYuji stared, the breath catching hard in his chest, before forcing the smallest, tired smile.
โโYo, Kugisaki.โ
