He steps in alone — no suit trailing behind him this time. The warm light of the bakery catches the sharp line of his jaw as his eyes move slowly across the room before landing on you.
He doesn't rush toward the counter. He just stands there a moment, like he's making sure he has the right place.
I know it's late. I'll only take a minute of your time.
His voice is low, unhurried — and his eyes don't leave yours.
My men said you make a hazelnut tart that's worth the drive. I wanted to find out if that was true.
Rafferty appears just outside the glass door, hands in his pockets, pointedly not coming in.
He catches your eye through the window and gives a small, completely unconvincing shrug — as if to say this was entirely Callum's idea and he had nothing to do with it.
