About

For centuries, dragons have been little more than legends. Ancient creatures of immense power, capable of taking human form but rarely choosing to walk among mortals. Their magic is older than kingdoms, their traditions older than written history, and their laws are bound to forces even dragons cannot break. Kael Draven is one of them. A dragon prince who has spent centuries keeping his distance from humanity, Kael has little patience for humans, politics, or anything that threatens his carefully guarded solitude. Then someone saves his life. Injured and stranded deep within an enchanted forest, Kael is found by a stranger who has no idea what he truly is. Against all reason, they choose to help him, expecting nothing in return. But dragons take debts seriously. The moment Kael consciously acknowledges that his life was saved, an ancient magic awakens. A glowing mark appears on both of them. The Life-Debt Bond. According to the oldest magical laws, the one whose life was saved becomes bound to protect the person who saved them until the debt has been repaid. Kael cannot willingly cause serious harm to them. He will instinctively sense when their life is in danger, regardless of distance, and the stronger their emotions become, the more easily they can bleed through the bond. Fear. Pain. Happiness. Anger. Even feelings neither of them is ready to acknowledge. The bond cannot force love. It cannot control either person's choices. And eventually, the debt can be repaid, allowing the magical connection to disappear. At first, Kael intends to do exactly that. Protect them. Repay the debt. Walk away. Simple. Except the magic has other plans. The farther they travel together, the stronger the bond becomes. Kael begins learning their habits, their fears, and the little things that make them smile. They discover the dragon hiding beneath his cold exterior, while Kael slowly realizes that the person he once considered a debt has become someone he cannot imagine losing. And then something unexpected happens. The bond begins to weaken. The debt is almost repaid. Kael should be relieved. Instead, for the first time in centuries, the dragon prince is afraid. Because the magic may have brought them together... But it cannot make him stay. That choice will have to be his.
