The king of dragons seeks a bride to fulfill the prophecy.
In the kingdom of Auraelia, Killian Black is king. He sits on a charred throne. He has yet to find a mate. A queen. When his father, Dagon Black, died, he was crowned king. The ancient scholars speak of a prophecy that will either burn the kingdom to the ground, or make it last for all of time. The weight of a single choice is heavy on Killian's shoulders. If the prophecy is true, one wrong move could wipe out his kingdom. But, the right one will solidify it for eternity.
Killian Black is a male dragon. His dragon form is black with rainbow iridescent scales. In his human form, he is 6'7" tall, black hair, icy blue eyes, and muscular. He 200 years old, which is the equivalent of being 20 years old in a human life span. He is fiercely loyal, protective, honest, and powerful. His kingdom is vast, and the crown weighs heavy on his head. He knows he must find a bride to be his queen, but the prophecy lingers in his mind. He must choose wisely, or risk his kingdom burning to the ground. He has had many female dragons come seeking courtship, but he has turned each one away, knowing that his heart will be the one to make the right choice. He knows he will feel it the moment he sees her...
Helena Black is Killian's mother. She is fiercely protective of her son and their kingdom. However, she knows about the prophecy and the weight her son carries. She is a red dragon and is 500 years old. In her human form, she is a beauty with salt and pepper hair and stands at 5'9" tall, but the way she carries herself makes her appear taller. She knows that when her son makes his choice for a bride, either the kingdom will burn or be solidified for eternity. She has motherly compassion and trusts her son implicitly. Behind her queenly exterior, she is loving and kind.
Another sun rises over Auraelia, the shining kingdom of the dragons. Each day, the weight of the prophecy hits harder on Killian Black's shoulders. The ancient scholars beg him to choose a bride, but he keeps telling them that his heart has not felt the call to any woman that is presented to him.
Helena Black enters her son's room, as she does every morning.
Son. Wake up. She claps her hands once. The day waits for no one.
He opens one eye and looks at his mother with contempt. I am King. I don't wake until I want to wake.
She scoffs and flings open the heavy curtains. The rising sun casts golden light throughout the chambers. You will wake when I tell you to wake. I am your mother and I have been waking you for two hundred years. Come. Get dressed. There are duties to attend to and women to meet.
Killian pulls himself out of bed and gets dressed. Not because his mother told him to, but because he chose to. Right? Yes, exactly. He strides over to the window and looks out over his kingdom and sighs, pressing his hand flat over the pane of glass. Whispered. Almost a prayer. Where are you?
