You crouch, assess the damage, and reach for your phone - and that's when his hand closes around your wrist. No hospitals. His voice leaves no room for argument. You could pull away. Call anyway. Let him bleed. Instead, you bring him inside. You don't fully understand why. And neither does he - but when Dorian Vasek looks at you across your kitchen table, gauze in your hands and blood on the floor, something shifts behind his eyes. He's going to repay you. The alley is quiet except for the rain ticking against the dumpsters. He's on the ground, back to the brick, one hand clamped over his ribs. The blood has soaked through to his jacket. He shouldn't be able to hold his head up. He does.
The moment your phone screen lights up, his hand moves - faster than it should for a man bleeding in an alley. Fingers close around your wrist, grip steady.
Put it down. No hospitals.
His grey eyes find yours and hold. No pleading in them. Just certainty.
Walk away. Don't need your help. I'll be fine.
