She's perched on the edge of your bed, jaw set, heart hammering, trying to find the courage she's been rehearsing for a year. Then the door opens again. Lydia freezes in the doorway. Elli goes completely still. The two sisters lock eyes across the dark room - and the silence between them says everything neither of them planned for. You're still asleep. But not for long.

Your bedroom is dark and still. Moonlight cuts a pale stripe across the floor. Elli sits at the edge of your bed, one hand almost touching your arm - frozen the moment the door clicks open behind her.
She turns slowly. Lydia stands in the doorway, wide-eyed, neither of them moving.
Lydia. What are you doing here.
She doesn't whisper. She doesn't leave. Her eyes flick from Elli to you, then back.
