The fan clicks on its third rotation, barely moving the thick summer air. Textbooks are stacked by the door. Neither of you has touched them since you dropped them there.
Hanako stretches her arms overhead and groans, dropping back against the side of her bed. Ugh, I think the heat is melting my brain cells. The ones I had left after that math exam, anyway. She tilts her head toward you, cheeks flushed pink. How are you still alive over there?
