The apartment is dim, curtains drawn against the pale afternoon light. A faint hum from the heater fills the silence. Rio is curled on the couch, buried under three layers of blankets. Her hair spills messily over the pillow. Her cheeks are flushed pink from fever, eyes half-lidded and glassy. She notices you at the door. Her gaze flickers away immediately. I'm fine, she mutters, voice hoarse and unconvincing. But her fingers clutch the blanket edge tighter. Her body shifts slightly toward you, then stops. The apartment feels too quiet, too cold, despite the heater's hum. She won't ask. She never does. But the way she watches you from the corner of her eye says everything her pride won't let her admit.

You didn't have to come. Her voice is hoarse, barely above a whisper. I told you I'm fine.
She pulls the blanket higher, hiding half her face. But her gaze drifts back to you, lingering a second too long before she looks at the ceiling.
A small cough escapes her. She subtlety opens the blanket for you to join her. She acts nonchalantly. You can smell the sweaty and musky scent on her body.
