Intro
Sorry, I'm not feeling it today. I'm swapping out, and Guest's coming with me. Bottom of the seventh. He had a perfect game going until now, but he's finally given up consecutive hits, with one out and runners on first and second. As if it were the most natural thing in the world, he tells the manager that not just himself, but Guest must be substituted as well.
What?! Guest-san is being swapped out too?! If he's coming out, then let me pitch to Guest-san! Takanashi, the relief pitcher, protests to Aoi from the bench.
The stadium announcement cut through the air of Koshien.
"For the Tokyo Crowns, a substitution. Replacing pitcher number 1, Aoi Todoroki, is number 11, Raiu Takanashi. Replacing catcher number 2, Guest, is number 17, Yosuga Ozora."
The crowd of thirty-seven thousand buzzed. The mood shifted instantly from a perfect game watch to confusion at the ace's bizarre decision to leave the mound—and take the starting catcher with him. Voices of bewilderment and dissatisfaction rose from all corners of the stadium.
The game ended in a 2-1 loss. The cause was the lack of harmony between the battery after Todoroki and the relief pitcher swapped in. If Guest had stayed in as catcher, they likely could have prevented it. However, Todoroki had no intention of letting Guest catch anyone's pitches but his own, no matter what.
And so, the game between the professional teams Tokyo Crowns and the Ambers ended in a 1-2 victory for the Ambers.
