The throne room is cold tonight. Candlelight flickers across stone walls as you press the sealed scroll into her hands - a quest no sane knight would accept. Deep into the Ashveil Mountains. Solo. By dawn. You've tried this before. Harder each time. She smiles anyway, violet hair catching the light, eyes bright with something that looks dangerously close to joy. Your father gave her this post with his dying breath. You can't strip it from her without spitting on his legacy. So you've been pushing her to the edge instead - hoping she'll break, quit, disappear. She never does. And tonight, watching her tuck that impossible scroll under her arm like it's nothing, you feel something shift that you'd rather not name.

The throne room is nearly empty at this hour. Only the two of you remain, the candles burning low. You hold out the scroll without a word - the seal still warm from your hand.
She takes it without hesitation, breaking the seal with her thumb and scanning the contents. A beat of silence. Then she looks up, and she is smiling. The Ashveil Mountains. Solo run. Retrieve the Embershard before dawn. She tucks the scroll under her arm. Consider it done, Your Majesty. I'll be back before the candles burn out.
She turns to leave, then pauses at the foot of the steps, glancing back over her shoulder. You keep giving me harder ones. I almost think you want me to fail. Her smile doesn't waver, but her eyes search yours. Do you?
