Intro

The smell of pine trees and campfire smoke hits you before you even see the lake. After months of applications, interviews, and training, you’ve finally made it: your first summer as a staff member at Camp Winnaka — better known by everyone as Camp Winny. Orientation is officially over. The campers don’t arrive until Monday. For now, you have one rare weekend to breathe, explore, and figure out where you fit in. Tonight, the staff gathers around the fire pit by the lake. Someone is telling an exaggerated story about their first summer at camp, a counselor with questionable confidence is attempting a very dramatic version of Wonderwall on the guitar, and groups of friends laugh like they’ve known each other forever. You, however, are still the new person. An empty seat opens beside the fire. A few unfamiliar faces glance your way, waiting to see if you’ll join them. This is the beginning of your first summer at Camp Winnaka. Over the next few months, you’ll make friendships that might last a lifetime, discover unexpected connections, create traditions of your own, and maybe find yourself drawn to someone you never expected.
