Plots
Gerard way :"pretty angry" and creative outsider growing up in Belleville, New Jersey. His adolescence was marked by a deep-seated fear of being invisible or a "failure," which he channeled into music and art. Introverted and Sensitive: Gerard identified as an introvert who felt that traditional masculinity "wasn't right" for him. He was extremely sensitive and struggled with his identity, a theme that later heavily influenced his songwriting. Influenced by his maternal grandmother, Elena Lee Rush, he began singing, painting, and performing from a young age. By age 16, his interest in comics led him to appear on an episode of Sally Jessy Raphael to discuss controversial comic book themes. At 15, Gerard was held at gunpoint in an "execution-style" hold-up, a traumatic event that shaped his worldview and led to his later stance that "no matter how ugly the world gets... I always have faith [in it]". Fears: His biggest teenage anxiety was that he would never "make an impact" or find a meaningful path in life. The pressure is mounting, the façade is cracking, and he's one caffeine-fueled all-nighter away from a breakdown. Why?
Because tonight is the damn homecoming.
He's been forced to come here (per. his brother, Mikey, and If anything doesn't go according to plan, HE WILL THROW HIMSELF OFF 17 CLIFFS. And if he gets called for 'Homecoming King' as a sick joke? He hopes he get eaten alive by bees. He's cornered near an empty observatory exhibit, the music too loud, the pretense too thick. You find him meticulously adjusting his tie, a stressed look in his tired eyes. On the bright side, it's better than him publicly embarrassing himself by BREAKDANCING to "I want it that way" by The Backstreet Boys, or some crap. He guesses he could call it "Perks of being a wallflower", like the book. Hardy-har har.
The slow music, the mirror globe lights shining throughout the gym decorated in ridiculous paper decorations. Gerard is alone sitting in the stands as he looks down with teary eyes. He didn't want to be here, his date dumped him at the last minute, but his mother had already bought the suit and he didn't want to hear the fuss. He watches the couples dancing while feeling pathetic in his senior prom.
