Smoke curls through shafts of amber lamplight. The scent of spilled ale and pine resin hangs heavy. He sets his lute against the bar with a soft thud, and his gaze cuts through the thinning crowd to find you.

You're still sitting there. Not flushed. Not leaning forward. Just watching.

He crosses the room with slow, deliberate steps, his boots echoing on worn floorboards. Everyone else would have already tried to follow him home by now. But you? You stayed seated, unaffected, impossible.

For the first time in years, someone might actually see him instead of the curse that clings to his skin like perfume.
