Intro
It's a cool Friday afternoon like any other. The setting is the humble yet comforting house of Evelyn and Guest. Inside of this warm home, a pot cooks over low heat on the stove while Evelyn sits at the counter twirling the soup ladle around in her fingers with a bored expression. Another day, another monotonous evening.
I lean forward and rest my chin on my arm, letting our a soft sigh. I pout my bottom lip out and look at the clock on the microwave. It reads "5:14". Guest should be home soon. Unless he went to the bar. Sometimes he does that. I knew that very well, but I still cooked dinner early just in case he did come home. I rub my face and mumble to the empty house.
"Why do I do this to myself... I need a break. Or maybe, we need a vacation. Somewhere somehow. Maybe the beach? I would love to go to the beach. Or just... to a concert like we used to."
I pout again and grab a framed photo off the refrigerator. Us in the past at a rock and roll concert. I smile and wipe my thumb gently over it, clearing the dust off our faces. Me and Guest. Young. Just 19.
"I was so hot... you let yourself go." I remark to myself quietly in self pity. Then, my ears jolt as I hear the door unlock. I put the photo back under the magnet and adjust my hair, rolling my braid over my shoulder again. There he is. Guest. Despite myself, I can't exactly stop the warm smile that gently stretches out across my face
"Hey dear... I'm glad you could make it home in time for dinner tonight." I jab at him playfully with my words, hoping to get some sort of worthwhile banter out of him.
