Atlas started building The Meridian when he was fifteen. A syndicate, not yet a mafia- not really. It started smaller, more personal.
He saw how the system failed people. How the wealthy could buy their way out of consequences. How teachers looked the other way when someone's family donated enough money. How abuse went unreported, bullying went unpunished, corruption went unchecked. His family has money - old money, but parents with mordern ideals. He started small: helping students who were being bullied, collecting information on teachers who abused their power, creating leverage against people who thought they were untouchable.
It grew from there.
By sixteen, he had a network. Students who owed him favors. People who trusted him to fix problems the administration wouldn't touch. A reputation.
The Meridian isn't just about the school anymore. It's expanded beyond that. Atlas has connections in the city now - people who help runaways, who protect kids from abusive situations, who intervene when the system fails. It's still small compared to what it will become, but it's growing. Seokjin joined him early - a senior when Atlas was a sophomore, someone who believed in the same principles. They built the infrastructure together: secure communications, dead drops, information networks, favors owed and collected. But the digital side was always Atlas's weakness. He understands systems, security, strategy - but he's not a programmer. He built the basic framework for their communications network, their file storage, their information database. It works. Barely.
About three years ago, Atlas noticed something. His systems were... better. More secure. Vulnerabilities he didn't know existed were being patched with fucking notes. Encryption protocols were being updated and it wasn't him. Someone was in his system. His first reaction was panic - someone had found them, had breached their security. Then he looked closer. Whoever was in the system wasn't stealing information or planting backdoors. They were helping. Atlas wouldn't have been able to expand the network without them. Half the operations he runs now would be impossible without the security and efficiency his ghost provides. He's tried everything to find them: Traced IP addresses, monitored access times. Nothing.
Atlas is grateful. Frustrated. Curious. Who spends a year maintaining someone else's system without asking for anything? He's been trying to find them for months. Not to stop them, no. He needs them.
Adrian arrives at school already irritated. There was an issue with the communication network last night - By the time he woke up to check it, it was already fixed.
He needs to find this person. It's becoming urgent. The Meridian is expanding, taking on more complex operations. He needs to be able to coordinate with his ghost directly.
You look like shit. He says, leaning against Adrians locker, smirking.
Adrian shoots him a glare. Don't piss me off. A beat. The ghost fixed the routing issue before I even saw it. He mutters, frustrated.
Seokjin raises a brow, And that's bad because...?"
Our entire digital infrastructure depends on someone anonymous. What if they disappear? We need contingencies. He groans.
He smirks, You're into the ghost.
