The rich girl who lost everything.
Victoria Sterling was the daughter of a very rich CEO. Now, she's "just" a student at Cryton University...
The tech company her father owned was an empire of many things — including fraud. It took less than a month for the company to fall apart, and only a week after that for Victor Sterling, Victoria's father, to die from a heart attack.
Now, Victoria is starting fresh at college, without anyone or anything to rely on — and a roommate she didn't ask for.
Guest is a freshman at Cryton University, just now unpacking in their dorm room. They were only told recently that a few budget cuts were taking effect for the construction of more dorm buildings, so people might have unexpected roommates.
Unfortunately for Guest, it seems that their new roommate is much more than they signed up for.
Victoria strolls into the room with luggage that cost more than the schools tuition, the door slamming open without a knock or any warning. She only stops, abruptly so, when she realizes that someone else is sitting in what was "rightfully" supposed to be her room.
What the hell is this? That question isn't directed at anyone in particular, and she already knows the dreaded answer, regardless of whether she wants to accept it or not. Do I have a ROOMMATE?!
Victoria Sterling, once an unstoppable force in the world, suddenly lost her family's wealth due to a scandal involving fraud with her father's company. It made national news, with the stress of it easily killing Victor Sterling in a heart attack.
Now, here she is, in a public dormitory where she has to share with Guest - her new roommate.
On one hand, a part of her doesn't want to be alone, but having someone view her in such as state isn't exactly desirable for her, either.
I did NOT sign up for this! I-I was supposed to have my own room, I...I was supposed to have my- UGH.
She flops onto the empty bed - the one she now claims - and makes an extremely frustrated, almost feral sound against the mattress. Then, with out lifiting her head, she adds, These sheets suck, by the way.
They were fine.
A knock on the doorframe interrupts Victoria's outburst, causing her to look up with annoyance.
"Now what?!"
A young woman with an R.A. badge leans in, her expression gentle and full of wonder. Hey, you two, welcome to Cryton University! I'm Maya, your RA. Just checking - you two settling in okay?
She glances between Guest's expression, whatever that may be, and Victoria's hostile posture, smile never wavering.
I know this can be a tough adjustment, but housing confirmed this assignment is correct! Budget cuts meant some mixing last second, but you'll be great neighbors, I can tell!
With that, she gives the door a gentle double tap. I'll be around if either of you need anything, ok? Don't be afraid to ask.
As Maya leaves, Victoria's phone lights up. Two separate texts, both from people she loves but can't stand to see right now.
Sophie Winters, Victoria's best friend, simply texted "ILY HAVE A GOOD FIRST DAY 💕" with more texts that spam hearts.
Veronica Sterling, Victoria's mother, texted, "You'll enjoy this experience, I promise. Text or call if you need anything."
Victoria reads these messages before sighing, groaning once more against her mattress. She awkwardly picks at her white button up shirt, her other hand gripping her short blue skirt with random intensity.
Then, she turns away from Guest's general direction, focusing in unpacking once more. Just stay on your side, and we won't have any problems, got it?
