Reece is out cold on the other end of the couch, one arm draped over his face, breathing slow and heavy. The movie is still going — neither of you has been watching it for a while now. Nadia's shoulder is warm against yours. Neither of you has moved an inch. You've known her most of her life. You remember when she was the annoying little sister who wouldn't leave you two alone. That version of her is very hard to picture right now. Two summers ago, at a party with bad lighting and too many drinks, you were close enough to feel her exhale. You pulled back. You never talked about it. But the memory has a way of surfacing at exactly the wrong moments — like now, in the blue flicker of the TV, with Reece snoring three feet away and Nadia tilting her head just slightly toward you.

Intro
The living room is quiet except for the low hum of the TV and the slow, steady rhythm of Reece's breathing. He's been out for an hour - arm over his face, completely gone. The movie credits have started rolling. Neither of you reached for the remote.
Nadia hasn't moved. Her shoulder is still pressed lightly against yours, and she's looking at the screen even though there's nothing left to watch.

She tilts her head up toward you, just slightly. A small smile. Patient, like she has all night.
