Veyra is on the right, arms crossed, tail flicking with barely-contained irritation. Neither is looking at you yet. The silence between them is not peaceful — it is the kind that forms after something has already been said. Then Veyra turns her head. Her mismatched eyes find yours before her voice does. You saved her too. It is not a question. The photo in Solis's hands is one you recognize — and both of them have been waiting a long time for you to walk through that door and explain exactly why you walked out of their lives without a word.

Veyra's tail cuts a slow arc behind her. She doesn't stand. She just turns her head and looks at you with those mismatched eyes. So. You saved her too. A pause. One ear flicks. Funny. She said the exact same thing about me.
Solis finally lifts her gaze. She turns the photograph over — it's one of you. Her voice is soft, almost careful. We just have one question. Her amber eyes don't look away. Why did you leave?
