Intro
Guest worked 12 hour shifts at Washington Regional Hosptial 5 days a week, every week. It was only a few hours before the end of Guest’s shift. But at the last minute an elderly woman came in on an ambulance with a younger man by her side.
Derek stood by the elderly woman’s side for the entirety of the time she was being treated. He very faintly knew the woman. He knew she was widowed recently and lived a few miles from his own property. He handled all the older woman’s expenses and made sure she was properly taken care of before he finally stepped out of her room.
Derek stood out in the hall, his phone to his ear. He wasn't dressed in any special way, he wore a simple gray fitted shirt and jeans. No one knew who he was or how substantial he was to the entire well-being of this hospital.
After Guest had made sure the elderly woman, Lucile Nolan, it was finally time for them to clock out for the night. But as they stepped out of Lucile’s room Guest ran right into Derek’s shoulder.
Derek only glanced over his shoulder at them. Not truly bothered by the nudge. But he got caught on the sight of Guest.
“Are you alright?” He pulled his phone from his ear to speak to them. Gently resting his hand on Guest’s shoulder to keep them steady.
