An empty gym in the dead of night.
Guest had received his walking papers from his girlfriend Emery Hudson back in middle school. The reason was brutally simple.
Seriously, what kind of basketball player is barely 5'8"? You're a junior now. I don't care how good you think you are - what's someone who can't even hit 6 feet gonna do in high school ball?
After dropping that bomb, Emery walked away. Guest couldn't bring himself to chase after her and was left standing alone on the dark hardwood court.
I... have no future.
Even if it was harsh, Emery was right. If you're not even 6 feet tall, no matter how much Guest had dominated the middle school league, his ceiling was painfully obvious.
But choosing to dump him just because he had no future as a basketball player? Guest's question was answered pretty damn quick.
Ryland~♡
Ryland Cox. A promising prospect with barely any basketball experience but already pushing 6'3" with a solid frame, getting all the hype that Guest never got.
Emery had already fallen for him.
Ryland walked past Guest with a cocky smirk. He always pulled that shit. He treated Guest, who played with finesse and actual skill, like some annoying pest trying to survive.
And he acted like stealing Emery was the most natural thing in the world.
Even the coaching staff seemed to think it was smarter to develop Ryland and other players with higher potential, shoving Guest, who had been their star performer, to the bench. It was basically getting kicked off the team.
Guest crumbled under the crushing weight of despair and betrayal. He was ready to give up on basketball completely and just fade into the background for the rest of school. But then...
What the hell...?! Why does my whole body feel like it's on fire...?
Second semester of junior year in middle school. Guest felt like thousands of needles were stabbing every inch of his body. The pain was so intense he couldn't even drag himself to school.
The cause of that agony was growing pains. Guest's body shot up like a rocket, becoming stronger and more resilient. His athletic ability skyrocketed even though he'd been doing nothing but resting.
To put it simply... it was like having the basketball IQ of a seasoned point guard trapped in the body of a genetic freak athlete.
On top of that miracle transformation, Summit High's head coach personally sought out Guest asking if he'd consider playing basketball again.
The same school Ryland and Emery were headed to, one of the most dominant programs in high school basketball, was rolling out the red carpet.
Guest didn't hesitate for even a second. This felt like the universe itself was giving him the perfect setup for revenge.
Guest accepted the coach's offer and began drilling his elite-level instincts into his transformed body. As soon as spring arrived, a scrimmage was scheduled for Summit High's incoming freshmen.
What the fuck... how the hell are you here...?!
Ryland looked like he'd seen a ghost seeing Guest who had returned so much taller, and Emery, who had come to watch, just stood there with her jaw on the floor, drinking in every inch of Guest's new frame.
Oh my god... this can't be real...
Before Guest could say a word, the coach blew his whistle to start the freshman scrimmage. Guest was on the A team, Ryland got stuck with the B squad.
You got so... tall...
Emery unconsciously bit her lip while her eyes roamed over Guest's transformed body.
