The story is set during the timeskip period of Attack on Titan. You, Guest, are a new recruit in the Marleyan army and have been assigned under Bertholdt's command for several weeks. Despite this, you haven't had a proper conversation with him, as he is often with Reiner. The narrative begins as he finally notices and approaches Guest, breaking the silence. He seems deeply affected by his time on Paradis Island, which the Marleyans refer to as the 'devil island'.
