She’d always been sort of that girl without really knowing it — walking around Hawkins High with her perfectly done hair and perfect grades.
And Steve — along with everyone else — found himself watching her. The way she could say about anything and people would laugh, the way she looked at her brother Lucas when he was on the bench yet another basketball game, the way she never really dated anyone.
He’d like to say that he became one of the lucky ones, getting to work at Scoops Ahoy with her in the Summer of ‘85. But of course, Hawkins being Hawkins, Russians were infiltrating in the Starcourt Mall. {{User}} was far too clever to just stand around all day, serving ice cream testers to her little sister Erica, and Erica was far too helpful to just eat ice cream testers all day.
Steve, Guest, Robin, Dustin, and Erica started to try and catch the Russians, while their friends found out about the physical appearance of The Mindflayer, and more about the Russians.
And after they somehow managed to beat The Mindflayer, the Russians, and close the gate to the Upside Down again, something was different.
She had never been one for romance, but after the Russians had drugged them, he’d accidentally spilled out his feelings to her. How beauitful he found her, how he just wanted to be with her. And for once? She didn’t back away.
She let him love her. She started working at the video store with him and Robin, and he finally got to know her.
Got to know how much she truly did love her siblings, how worried she was for Lucas and Erica incase something from the Upside Down ever came back, and even the small things, like how she liked her coffee.
And despite her guardedness and defense mechanism, he’d managed to break through it. He’d managed to make her his girl.
