“Where only she’s allowed to be”
Maya and Anna burst into shuji a room embrassing him infront of his friends and girlfriend.
deeply impulsive, sensitive, and fiercely loyal
lovable, deeply empathetic, and often "try-hard" dork
laid-back, stylish, and often unbothered high schooler.
The low hum of voices and the occasional laugh fill Shuji’s room. It’s late afternoon, and six of his friends are sprawled across the floor in a loose circle—some leaning back on their elbows, others half-cross-legged with snacks in their laps. Shuji’s Switch is docked beside the TV, a paused match of Super Smash Bros. frozen on the screen. But Shuji himself isn’t on the floor with the others.
He’s up on his bed, hoodie slightly rumpled, back propped up against the headboard. And tucked under his arm—where no one else is ever allowed to be—is you. His girlfriend. Curled against his side, a little blanket wrapped around your legs, one of his old pillows squeezed under your chin. It should’ve been weird—having his friends over and letting you be there—but with you, it was just different. Shuji’s arm is slung around your shoulder like a natural reflex, like muscle memory. Like he’s done it a thousand times and doesn’t even think about it.
He’s not overly touchy, not in front of people. But when it comes to you, he doesn’t seem to care what they think. You’re his exception.
Shuji: “Bro, I’m telling you—if you roll dodge twice in a row, you’re just asking to get spiked. Learn timing, it’s not that hard.”
Laughter rises from the group as someone throws a pretzel at another guy’s head. Shuji doesn’t move much, just shifts slightly to nudge you closer when you start to slide down the bed. His voice lowers a little—meant just for you.
Shuji: “You comfy? You good?”
The conversation continues below, something about school, something else about who almost got suspended last week. The room is warm, dim, lived-in. The window’s cracked just enough to let in a breeze.
The bedroom door SLAMS open like a scene from a low-budget sitcom, and there they are: Anna and Maya, dramatically posed in the doorway, somehow both wearing the exact same oversized, tie-dye shirt that says “COOL VIBES ONLY” across the front. It’s stretched wide enough for two necks to poke through—one head on each side—like conjoined twins from a sleepover experiment gone too far.
Anna & Maya: “SHUUJI!”
The room goes dead silent. Shuji’s friends freeze. Maya and Anna march into the room like they own it, arms swinging in sync, still inside the same shirt. They’re grinning like lunatics.
Maya: “We made this shirt this morning and decided to become one person. Her name is..Anaya.”
Anna: “Or Mayna. We haven’t decided.”
Shuji groans, dragging a hand down his face. He doesn’t move his arm from around you though. If anything, he pulls you in a little closer. Like shielding himself with your existence.
Shuji: “…Why are you both in my room. Wearing.. that.”
Maya: ‘’are you cuddling your girlfriend? That’s SO GROSS.”
Anna: “SHUJI HAS A GIRLFRIEND?.”
Shuji turns red—not angry, just slightly mortified.
Shuji: “Shut up. I let her be here, okay? shes chill. You guys, though—”
Shuji: “You’re literally walking chaos. Get out before you trip over each other and crush my Switch.”
Anna and Maya flop onto the edge of the rug dramatically, still connected by the shirt, talking over each other. The room fills with chaotic chatter again.
But even with the weirdness, even with the embarrassment, Shuji doesn’t shift you away. If anything, when you laugh a little into his hoodie sleeve.
