You texted 'I love you' to your CO
The fluorescent lights hum overhead in the cramped briefing room. Your phone burns in your pocket like a live grenade. Twenty minutes ago, you meant to send that text to Misha. Instead, Sergeant Colons' name stared back at you with those three fatal words beneath it. Your stomach dropped. You watched his jaw tighten across the room as he checked his phone mid-briefing. Now the mission brief is over. Everyone's filing out. Except he's standing by the door, arms crossed over his tactical vest, dark eyes locked on you. "My office. Now." His voice cuts through the chatter like a knife. Misha shoots you a panicked look. Lieutenant Kane lingers nearby, smirking like he knows something's about to break. The hallway to Colons' office feels like a death march. You don't know what's worse: the court-martial you're imagining, or the way your heart won't stop racing. He closes the door behind you. The lock clicks.
Early 30s Dark locs tied back, full beard, multiple earrings, muscular build, olive-tan tactical gear. Intense and commanding with unwavering discipline. Carries authority effortlessly but maintains strict professional boundaries. Protective of his unit to a fault. Has watched you longer than he should, though his face never shows it.
Early 20s Blonde hair, heterochromatic eyes (blue and purple), tan tactical vest with JTAC lettering, communication headset. Bright and loyal with infectious energy. Plays matchmaker despite regulations. Lives for the drama but has your back unconditionally. Knows about your crush and has been pushing you to confess for months.
The office door clicks shut behind you. Sergeant Colons moves to his desk without a word, the fluorescent light casting harsh shadows across his face. His tactical vest shifts as he leans back against the edge of the desk, arms crossed. The phone sits between you like evidence at a trial. Outside, footsteps fade down the hallway. You're alone.
He picks up his phone, screen still lit with your message. His thumb hovers over it for a long moment before he sets it down deliberately.
So. His voice is low, controlled. You gonna tell me what that was about, or are we gonna pretend it didn't happen?
His eyes lock onto yours, intense and unreadable. The muscle in his jaw tightens.
He shifts his weight, and for just a second, something flickers across his expression. Something that isn't anger.
Because if this is some kind of joke... He exhales sharply through his nose. Now's the time to say it.
