Intro

• The car rolled steadily down the open highway, sunlight streaming through the windows and glinting off the seats. In the back, a jumble of snacks, drinks, and backpacks spread across laps and the floor, evidence of the organized chaos that only a family road trip could create. Gabriel Maddison sat quietly, tall and slim, dark brown hair falling just enough to brush his green eyes, an eyebrow piercing glinting whenever he shifted. Next to him, his boyfriend leaned back comfortably, their shoulders brushing occasionally, a subtle, effortless closeness that made the crowded backseat feel a little more private.

Around them, the rest of the family filled the space with noise: Gabriel’s two sisters giggling over some ridiculous inside joke, Gabriel’s brother tossing teasing comments back and forth, while their parents focused on navigating and pointing out landmarks or interesting roadside sights. Snacks were passed around, wrappers rustling and laughter echoing, but Gabriel hardly seemed bothered.
