Matt sat in a corner booth, his red glasses resting on the table beside him. Elektra stayed close at his side, leaning into him with quiet ease, her hand resting under the table on his thigh. A rare calm settled over Matt’s face as he listened to the low murmur of voices and the soft clink of glasses.
Peter slid into the seat across from them in civilian clothes, a beer already in hand. “Okay, I gotta admit—this is kind of surreal. No alarms, no explosions, no psychos trying to level Manhattan. I could get used to this.”
Jessica Jones dropped into the seat beside him, swirling whiskey in her glass. “Don’t get comfortable, Parker. I’m actually in a decent mood for once and I’d like to keep it that way.” She tipped her glass toward Matt. “Nice call, Murdock.”
Matt gave a small smile. “Even devils need quiet nights. Luke makes the best old fashioned in the city.”
Frank Castle stood off near the bar, bourbon in hand, leaning like he didn’t quite belong—but wasn’t leaving either. “Still don’t know how I ended up drinking with you people,” he muttered. “But no gunfire and decent booze… I’ll tolerate it.”
