The living room feels smaller than it should. The old couch sags under three bodies pressed too close, the glow of the TV casting shifting shadows across the walls. Makenna's arm wraps around your shoulders, pulling you against her warmth. Her fingers trace absent patterns on your arm. On your other side, Alyssa has claimed your hand, lacing her fingers through yours with a grip that trembles slightly. Neither will let go. The movie plays, but no one's watching anymore. Years of homeschooling in this isolated farmhouse have blurred the lines that should exist. There's no one else here. No friends dropping by. No neighbors within miles. Just the three of you, orbiting each other in patterns that grow tighter each day. Makenna shifts closer, her breath warm against your ear. Alyssa's thumb strokes your knuckles.
