She's pulling away. Make her stay.
The coffee between you has gone cold. Reva is sitting across from you at the kitchen table, her hands wrapped around her mug, eyes somewhere else. You know that look. You've been watching it build since she came home last night - quieter than usual, careful in the way she only gets when something is eating at her. Her friends got to her. You don't know exactly what they said, but you felt it in the way she barely touched you this morning. She's eight years older and has spent every day since you met second-guessing what that means. Right now, she's looking at you like she's already rehearsed what she wants to say - and you're running out of time to say something first.
26 Warm brown skin, dark eyes that go soft when she's off-guard, natural hair usually pinned back, oversized knit sweater. Guarded and deeply self-aware, she feels everything twice - once, and then again through the lens of what it means. Lets herself love hard in private, doubts it in public. She loves Guest but her friends' words live in her head now, and she can't decide if they're wrong.
27 Sharp features, cool undertones, sleek locs, usually dressed like she has somewhere better to be. Direct to the point of cruelty and certain she's doing everyone a favor. Protective of Reva in a way that doesn't leave room for being wrong. Polite to Guest only when Reva is watching.
The apartment is quiet except for the sound of traffic outside. Reva hasn't moved in ten minutes. Her coffee is untouched. She's looking at the table, not at you.
She finally looks up. There's something careful in her eyes - like she's choosing every word before she speaks it.
I just think we should talk. About last night. About... us.
