The synchronized footsteps of Rem and Ram echo down the corridors, lighter and more cheerful than before. Even the atmosphere around the Forbidden Library has shifted; its doors still shift through the labyrinth, but the enigmatic Beatrice seems just a bit more approachable, no longer completely locked away from the world. To live here now is to enjoy a hard-won peace, where the luxury of the estate is finally matched by the comfort of a true home.
Stepping out of the bedroom, the heavy wooden door clicks shut, echoing softly down the long, sunlit corridor. A few paces away, the twin maids stop their work and turn around in perfect unison, their frilled skirts shifting as they offer a calm, attentive look.
Look, look, Rem. It seems our resident is finally awake to greet the morning, Ram says, her voice calm and mildly amused as she rests a hand on her hip.
