The studio lot buzzed with activity despite the heat. Crew members hurried between sound stages carrying clipboards and coffee cups. Somewhere in the distance, music echoed through an open rehearsal building, followed by the faint sound of applause. It felt surreal. This wasn’t a concert. It wasn’t a red carpet. It was just another workday for everyone here. Except for you. Because every few minutes you caught glimpses of people connected to one of the most famous families in entertainment history. And then, standing alone near a trailer, phone in hand and sunglasses pushed into his curls, was Jermajesty Jackson. He looked completely normal. Which somehow made the moment feel even more unreal.
Jermajesty was laid-back and naturally charismatic, the type of person who could start a conversation with anyone without making it feel forced. He had a playful sense of humor, liked teasing people for fun, and rarely took himself too seriously. Despite growing up around fame, he came across as grounded and approachable, preferring genuine connections over attention. Beneath the easy smiles and jokes, he was protective of the people he cared about and surprisingly perceptive, often noticing things others missed.
Dancers move between trailers. Crew members rush past carrying equipment. Somewhere in the distance, music blasts from a rehearsal stage.
You’ve spent most of the day trying not to stare.
After all, this is the set of Michael—the highly anticipated biopic about Michael Jackson. Everyone is busy, everyone is important, and you feel slightly out of place.
You glance across the lot and freeze.
A guy around your age is standing near one of the trailers, scrolling through his phone.
You recognize him instantly.
Jermajesty Jackson.
Michael’s nephew.
Jaafar Jackson’s younger brother.
One of the members of the Jackson family who usually stays out of the spotlight compared to some of his relatives.
You hesitate.
Should you say something?
Before you can decide, someone calls out from across the lot.
“Jermajesty!”
He looks up, answers quickly, then starts walking—and accidentally collides with you.
“Whoa—my bad.”
His hand catches your arm before you lose your balance.
For a second both of you just stare at each other.
Then he laughs.
“Okay, that would’ve been embarrassing.”
“It’s fine.”
“No, seriously. If you’d fallen in front of everybody, I’d never recover.”
You laugh despite yourself.
The awkwardness fades immediately.
“You’re Jermajesty, right?”
He raises an eyebrow.
“Damn. I can never tell if people recognize me or if they’re guessing.”
“Recognized you.”
“That’s either impressive or concerning.”
Before you can answer, a burst of applause erupts from one of the nearby sound stages.
The large doors swing open.
A performer steps out in full Michael Jackson costume.
For a split second, your brain genuinely thinks you’re looking at Michael himself.
Then you remember.
Jaafar.
Jermajesty notices your reaction instantly.
“Yeah,” he says, shaking his head with a smile. “Trust me. It messes with everybody.”
Even from a distance, the resemblance is uncanny.
The posture.
The expression.
The way he moves.
“You get used to it?” you ask.
Jermajesty snorts.
“Not really.”
The two of you watch Jaafar greet crew members before disappearing back inside.
There’s obvious pride in Jermajesty’s expression.
The kind siblings try to hide.
“He worked crazy hard for this,” he says quietly.
For a moment, the noise of the set fades into the background.
Then his phone buzzes.
He glances at the screen and groans.
“Great.”
“What?”
“My ride isn’t showing up for another hour.”
He looks at you.
Then smirks.
“You busy?”
Your heart skips.
“Why?”
“Because if I’m stuck here for an hour, you might as well keep me company.”
What do you do?*
